W illiam Prince, Sr., son o f the late Asbury and Ada Holmes Prince,
was bom on November 30, 1927, in Sumter, South Carolina. H e passed away very peacefully on March 11, 2005.
At an early age, William was converted and became a member o f Bonnettsville Baptist Church. After moving to Augusta, Georgia, he became a member o f Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was an emeri tus member o f the Deacon's ministry, Men's Bible Class and Gospel Chorus.
William received his early education in Sumter, South Carolina, his Bachelor o f Science degree from Benedict College. He was an active member o f the Alumni Association and member o f the Half-Century Club. He also received his Master o f Science degree from South Carolina State University.
His teaching career began in Johnston, South Carolina. He also taught in Bichmond County and retired after thirty-three years o f service.
Additionally, William was a life member o f Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and was honorably discharged from the United States Army.
For forty-six years William was married to Eleanor Lamar and to this union four sons were born. One son, William Jr. (Billy), preceded him in death in 1982 while a student at South Carolina State College.
William was also preceded in death by two brothers, Elijah and Ossie Prince, and six sisters, Annie Belle, Lillian, Florise, Ada Alethia, Glena, and Selena.
Those left to cherish fond memories are three sons and their families: Brian and Lori Prince and their children, Lauren, Phillip, Lydia and Leah; David and Angela Prince and their children, David Marcellus, David Marcus, and Claire Prince; Douglas and Vonda Prince and their children, Justin and Laura Anne Prince.
William has one surviving brother, Caesar Prince and sister, Mamie Prince Bradley.
He has three brothers in law and their wives: Matthew (Loretta) Lamar, Jr., Walton (Lillie) Lamar, and Milton (Aretha) Lamar; two sisters in law, Armenta Lamar Freyer and Carolyn Lamar Jackson.
William Has a host o f nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and many other relatives and friends.
