Mr. Willie Lester Powell, was born April 5, 1925 in Bartow, Georgia to the late Mr. George and Beulah Powell.
He was converted at an early age, and after moving to South Carolina hejoined the Bethel AME Church ofAugusta where Rev. Larry Hudson is pastor.
Mr. Powell retired from the City of North Augusta as a heavy equipment operator after thirty-four years of service. He was awarded a lifetime membership for 35 years of continuous service as a Mason in the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge 107 of Georgia.
He was united in holy matrimony to Mattie Kate Ryans on August 14, 1950.
Six brothers and one sister preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn a loving and devotedfamily; his wife of the home; two sons, Carlton (Barbara) Johnson, Laurelton, New York and William Henry (Charity) Henderson, Clearwater, South Carolina; two devoted daughters, Rosa Lea Scurry and Beulah (Franklin) McClattie, Belvedere, South Carolina; two brothers, Sammie (Mary) Powell, McCormick, South Carolina and Hubert Powell, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; three sisters Annie Maude (Thomas) Turner, Ollie (Pierce) Cook, North Augusta, South Carolina, and Rosa B. (Adolph) Hollins, Augusta, Georgia; ten grandchildren, Raynard, Renee, Beverly, Eddie, Lisa, Sabrina, Sandy, DeShawn, DeAngelo, and Carlton; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; three aunts, Grace Braddy, Lillian Broxton, Bartow, Georgia and Eula Arnold, Long Island, New York; one God child, Michael Allan, North Augusta, South Carolina; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins andfriends.
