"The Ship Has Sailed With Payne on Board"
Like a ship that left its mooring and sails hravely out to sea, so someone dearly sailed away in calm serenity. But there are promises of greater joy than earth could have in store, for God has planned a richer life beyond the unseen shore.
HENRY WESLEY "PAYNE" PHINIZY JR., was born in Augusta, Georgia on October 20, 1934, to the late Reverend Henry Wesley Phinizy Sr. and Mrs. Josephine Dandridge Phinizy. He quietly and peacefully departed this life in Friday, July 1, 2005.
Payne accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized by his father at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in the year of 1947.
He received his early education in the public schools of Richmond County and graduated from Lucy Craft Laney High School with the Class of 1957. He attended Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina and received his B.S. Degree from Paine College.
Payne was licensed and ordained to preach. He served as pastor of the Flat Rock Baptist Church, Burke County and Adams Grove, Hephzibah, Georgia.
Payne was truly gifted and blessed with the ability to speak and a voice to sing. He was a member of the Walker Baptist Association Choir and served as President of that ministry. He organized and directed the H.W. Phinizy Gospel Choir. He sang with many choirs and as a soloist throughout the state of Georgia.
He served his church and community well and touched the lives of many. He worked as a Social Worker for ten years and as a Classroom Teacher for twenty-four years in Aiken and Richmond County Schools. Payne received many distinguished honors and awards. He was named Teacher of the Year for the year of 1999-2000.
He was a member and served as the Secretary for the Southern Gentlemens Social Club. Payne was an active and life member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and served as Chaplain.

After Glow
Id like the memory of me
to be a happy one. Id like to leave an after glow of smiles when life is done.
Id like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days. Id like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun,
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
