OBITUARY
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be anymore pain. " Revelations 21:4
Mrs. Mary Sullivan Philpot was born in Edgefield, S.C., Oct ober 15, 1909, and died at 5:30 o'clock on June 1, 1984 in Hum ana Hospital of Augusta. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Lucy Coursey Sullivan. Vinson, where she served faithfully until her health failed.
She was united in marriage to the late Mr. James Philpot, Sr. in 1935. To this union six children were born, one preceding her in death. Leaving to mourn her passing; three daughters, Mrs. Lillie Smiley, Augusta, Ga., Ms. Matilda Philpot, and Ms. Ivella Philpot, both of Martinez, Ga.; two sons, Mr. Wardell Philpot, Martinez, Ga., and Mr. James Philpot, Jr., Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Collier, Belvedere, S.C., Mrs. Pearl Newsome, Augusta, Ga., and Mrs. Hattie Johnson, Miami, Fla.; two brothers, Mr. Dennis Sullivan, North Augusta, S.C., and Mr. Robert Sullivan, Bath, S.C.; one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, six brothers-in-law, nine sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and sorrowing friends.
Mrs. Mary Philpot was a lovable character, a person everyone chose to have as a friend and willing to be a friend to all. She never pushed herself forward, but always stayed in the background working and praying and doing whatever she was called upon to do for her Master.
There's an open gate at the end of the road Through which each must go alone A nd there, in light we cannot see Our father claims his own.
Beyond the gate you r loved one finds happiness and rest A nd there is com fort in the thought that a loving God knows best.
