MAEDELLA ALYIN PERRY was born February 14, 1952 to Dorothy Alvin. She is the oldest of five children and was raised on St. Simons Island, Georgia. She accepted Christ at an early age at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church on St. Simons. She graduated from Risley High School in 1970.
Upon graduating from high school, MaeDella went on to further her education at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She then went on to further her education and receive her Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Nursing at Medical College of Georgia which is now named Georgia Health Sciences University. She worked there for 25 years and has been "retired" almost 12 years. She has been working as a Professor at USC Aiken since 2001.
MaeDella has been active part of the Phi Chi Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority for many years. She has held many positions at the chapter and local level. She was inducted into Sigma Theta Thu Nursing Society in 2010. She played an active role in PEO, PTA, Pink Magnolias, Mentorship, and Augusta Partnership for Children and Families. She was involved in many other organizations in the community and church.
Since relocating to Augusta she has been an active member at First Shiloh Baptist Church and was involved in several ministries there. She had a true passion for the Youth Ministry. God has truly blessed MaeDella in many ways and she loved to give him praise.
In November 2009, MaeDella entered the ring in a battle with an opponent called Breast Cancer. She faced many battles with this opponent for a few years. Some rounds were harder than others, which sometimes left her sick and with cuts, but after each time she got up and tried again. This last time she participated in a "trial drug" in hopes to just get one step closer to a cure.
