M r. Oscar Henry "Peter"' Odom departed this life on D ecem ber 11, 1990 at his residence, He was born on May 24,1931 in Beech Island, South Carolina. He was the son o f the late M r. W illiam Noble Odom and Mrs. Louise W estbrook.
At an early age he was converted and baptized at the Moses Baptist Church, under the late Rev. R. B. Bush.
He was m arried to Miss Ethel Mae T yler on February 5, 1949 and they experienced forty-one beautiful years in Holy M atrimony.
Mr. Odom was employed by the Richmond County Board of Education for approxim ately ten years. Among his hobbies were: music listening, singing and perform ing professionally throughout the United States w ith the Southland Singers for about thirty-six years. The Southland Singers are unique in that the music is perform ed Acoppilla, also the roots o f the music is em bedded in the South, consisting o f traditional southern melodies. He was aw arded a plaque of appreciation for his God given singing talent. Most church congregations always gave standing ovations after each performance. He was also an active m em ber o f the 25 Gents.
He leaves to mourn a devoted wife, Ethel M. Odom; six daughters, Patricia Hicks, H enrietta Smith, Janice Odom , W anda Lowe and Gwendolyn Odom all of Augusta, Ga. and Rosalina E. Smith of Hinesville, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Jones, Augusta, Ga. and Mrs. Lizzie Stallings, Brooklyn, N.Y.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Mr. Michael Lowe and Mr. Joseph Smith; a devoted m other-in-law , Mrs. Ethel Tyler; one sister-in-law , Mrs. Elinore Elickson; one brother-in-law , Mr. W illie J. Tyler both o f Los Angeles, C alif.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
God has not promised skies always blue, Flowered strewn pathw ays all our lives through,
G od has not promised sun without rain, j o y without sorrow, peace without pain
