** OBITUARY **
Dea. Walter Nix, Sr., departed this life on Friday, January 4, 1980, at the age of seventy-five. He was born in Edgefield, South Carolina, on March 3, 1904, to Mr. Jim and Mrs. Parris Nix.
He was converted and baptized at an early age, and became a member of the Geter Baptist Church, in Edgefield.
Dea. Nix moved to Augusta about fifty-one years ago. He was a retired employee of University Hospital. After moving to Augusta, he was united with the Hale Street Baptist Church, where he was Chairman of the Deacon Board for many years.
He was united in matrimony to Miss Annie Patton in 1922. To this union, three sons were born: John Henry, Walter Nix, Jr., and the late Willie Nix.
He was united in matrimony, in 1946, to Mrs. Caroline Love Shannon. To this union, one son was born: Arthur Nix.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted wife, Mrs. Caroline Nix; three sons, John Henry Nix, Aiken, South Carolina, Walter Nix, Jr., Saginaw, Michigan, and Arthur Nix, Augusta, Georgia. Two step-sons, Daniel Shannon, Augusta, and Robert Shannon, Houston, Texas; three step-daughters, Henrietta Mack, Doris Helson, and Joan Reeves, all of Augusta; one brother, Willie Nix, Aiken, South Carolina; four sisters, Fannie Holloway, Annie Mae Woodward, Carrie Houston, and Parris Grey, all of Aiken, South Carolina; two daughters-in-law, Sarah Nix and Betty Jean Nix; one sister-in-law, Ida Shannon; one son-in-law, Clarence Reeves; fifteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
