JReflettimts of
S. ^loxine ^aison Dewberry, the daughter of the late Lilie Mae Griner and Willie Faison, was born in Augusta, Georgia on April 12, 1946. On Wednesday morning, September 23, 1998, at the University Hospital, in Augusta, Georgia, Maxine entered the fuller life where there is no more sorrow, sickness or pain.
Maxine joined the Tabernacle Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully until her death. She was a member of the E L. Stewart Choir, the Combined Choir and the Freddie P. Jackson Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Newberry received her formal education in the Public Schools of Richmond County. She received a diploma in Secretarial Science from Augusta Technical College and a Bachelors Degree from Paine College. Maxines love for children and her desire to serve mankind led her to teach in the Richmond County School System for fifteen years.
To know Maxine was to love her. She went about in a manner that won for her the hearts and the respect of many. Her congenial character and warm smile will always be remembered by her family, students, parents and many dear friends.
Maxines melodious, Angelic voice and her love for singing enabled her to sing for the Governor, Mayor, Representatives, and other state and local government officials. She recently received an invitation to sing for the Augusta Lynx Hockey Team.
Mrs. Newberrys unselfish love for humanity further led her to render untiring service in the community. She was a charter member of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority of Paine College. Maxine was founder of S.O.E.S. Chapter 910 and also served as its Worthy Matron.
Mrs. Newberry was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Tommy Lee Newberry on August 6, 1977. To this union, one son was bom, Tommy Lee Newberry, Jr.
Mrs. Newberry leaves to cherish her precious memory: her husband, Mr. Tommy Lee Newberry; one son, Tommy Lee Newberry, Jr., both of the home; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy (Horace) Perrin, of Augusta, GA; one brother, Mr. George Griner, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; mother-in-law, Mrs. Lizzie Newberry, of Fitzgerald, GA; aunt, Ola Mae Robinson, Waynesboro, GA; godmother, Mrs. Freddie P. Jackson, of Augusta, GA; a devoted friend and mentor, Ms. Evelyn Starks, of Augusta, GA; nieces, nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Out of the night that covers me, Black as a pitfrom pole to pole, I thank whatever Gods may be
For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud, Under the bludgeoning of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. It matters not how straight the gate How charged with punishment the scroll,
I am the Master of my Fate I am the Captain of my Soul. WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY
