Obituary
` Season of Sunrise* Donald K. Moorer or "Gus Gator" as he was affectionately known, was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 5, 1950 to the parentage of the late David L. Moorer Sr. And Catherine D. Moorer. It was established early on the importance of The Word, discipline and structure. At the tender age of twelve, he accepted Christ and became a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. He attended Lewis Elementary and later graduated with honors from Carver High School. Donald was a proud Evergreen Bottom resident. His community efforts included faithful servitude as an Evergreen Cadet foot soldier. These young men marched routinely through neighborhoods keeping order as they served as an example to urban youth.
` Season of Purpose* In 1972, Donald earned his Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering and his Masters in Nuclear Engineering immediately thereafter in 1973 at Tuskegee Institute. In the Fall of 1968, he was initiated into Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc as one of the proud 'Eight Disciples of Soul' Lambda Epsilon Chapter. He then wed his college sweetheart Mary Ann "Repunzel" Solomon, and they had two beautiful children LaTanya Michelle and Donald Karl,II. Donald then assumed a nuclear engineering role at Savannah River Site (formerly Dupont Westinghouse) and enjoyed a 30 year career with the company. During retirement, he dabbled as a real estate entrepreneur.
` Season of Sunset* Among those preceding him in death are his beloved father David Lee, Sr and his eldest brother David Lee, Jr. Donald leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife of 41 years Mary, his loving children LaTanya and Donald II (LaKeisha Gibson); his precious grandchildren JaQuan, Dylan Khalil, Donnovan, Sanaa, and Nicholas; his cherished mother Catherine; his dedicated brothers Larry and Randall; his supportive in-laws Hattie Mae Mitchell and Betty Tarpley ; his loyal sisters-in-law Bettye and Stella; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended family.
