Vickie Y. Mitchell, daughter of Carrie Mitchell and James Dukes, was born April 10, 1968 in Waynesboro, Georgia. She was the only child born to this relationship. She had five half sisters and one half brother.
Vickie, a very warm and personable individual, was a 1986 graduate of Lucy Laney High School here in Augusta, Georgia and Richmond County. While she matriculated at Laney, she loved being a part of the renowned Marching Band. Some of her hobbies consisted of cooking and modeling.
Vickie attended Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Good Samaritan Baptist Church, and several years ago, she joined Second Baptist Church in Belvedere, South Carolina.
Vickies professional career involved service in a variety of settings. She has worked as Administrative Secretary at Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center; Bank Teller at South Trust Bank; Receptionist/Medical Records Clerk at Metro Augusta Medical Center; Receptionist/Secretary at Professional Bodyworks and Weight Reduction, Inc.; Manager, Hairstations and Bodyshapers, Inc.; Office Manager, Metro Augusta Medical Center; Office Manager, Doctors Weight Loss; and at The Medical College of Georgia, she served as Collection Specialist, Purchasing Assistant, and Administrative Coordinator. In the latter part of 2002, she came to join the Paine College Family as Administrative Assistant/Events Coordinator.
Vickie leaves to mourn a young, energetic six year old son Akoli Emeka Knrumah of Augusta; Mother, Ms. Carrie Mitchell of Augusta; Father: Mr. James Dukes of Augusta, five half sisters: Ms. Felicia Dukes, Mrs. Angela Bussey Murry, Mrs. Teresa Haynes Carter, Ms. Lizzie Dukes, and Ms. Tasha Taksley; and one half brother, Mr. Mana-Shon Hinkins of Augusta; a devoted cousin Ms. Candace L. Wilkerson, a devoted Great Aunt, Ms. Willie Mae Chandler; two goddaughters: Tesslyn A, Muhammad, LaVascia JeanPaul of Augusta; a caring neighbor, Ms. Karan Green, and a host of other relatives and friends and coworkers.
