OBITUARY
I AM N O T DEAD, I LIVE IN CH RIST
I, Rev. William E. Merritt, was born March 9th, IS94, being the fourth child of Rev. Pierce and Mary Merritt of Ridge Spring, South Carolina.
I departed this mortal life at Meadowbrook Hospital, East Meadow, N. Y.
I attended Ridge Hill High School and joined Ridge Hill Bap tist Church at an early age under the pastorate of the late Rev. W. D. Hood.
I served in the U. S. Army during the World W ar I from Oct. 5th, 1917 to Apil 21st, 1919.
I was married to my ever devoted wife, Annie L. Williams, in December 1919 who has ever been my inspiration and encourage ment.
I was ordained a Baptist Minister on March 24th, 1935 at Ridge Spring, S. C . in Ridge Hill Baptist Church.
I leave to mourn my departure a very devoted Wife, one Daughter, one Grand-Daughter, a Son-In-Law, four Brothers, one Sister and a host of relatives and friends.
I lived my early life in Ridge Spring, S.C ., and moved my wife and two daughters to Hempstead, N. Y. in December 1938 where our family joined Union Baptist Church.
I was active in many organizations for the upbringing of Christ ianity and better Citizenship.
I have sailed Liife's Tempteous Sea and have piloted my ship in calm waters, dropped anchor and have gone ashore to receive my reward which was promised me upon completion of my voyage.
"W hat is Death? A parting of the cloud above us which hides the sun, a golden vision of the Soul that love us and labor done. What is Death? God's mercy Strange-Uncomprehended-Goal, the land of promise when toil is ended, the Day-Dawn of the Soul."
I go not like the quarry slave at night, scourged to his dung eon, but I approach my grave with an unfaltering trust, like one who wraps the drapes of his couch about him and lie down to pleasant dreams. I Die Content that my good works will be carried on by my posterity whom I have inspired.
I speak these words through my bereaved Family whom I leave behind.
M AY G O D BLESS YOU AND DEDICATE YO U TO HIS SERVICE
