Isaac McManus, a son of the late Gilmore and Mary Weaver McManus, was born on October 1, 1897, in Edgefield County. He departed this life on Friday, May 13, 1983, at Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center in Aiken, S.C.
He received his formal education in the schools of Edgefield County and Bettis Academy. For several years, he taught school in the Willow Spring Area.
At an early age, he joined the Willow Spring Baptist Church where he served as deacon, church clerk, choir leader and Sunday School teacher. He also served as treasurer of the Macedonia Baptist Sunday School Convention, Secretary of the Third Division Union and Member of the Educational Board of the Simmon Ridge Samaritan Association.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Essie Stevens on December 21, 1921. They lived a fruitful and dedicated life.
He leaves to mourn a loving wife; seven daughters, Edna Price, Washington, D.C., Gladys Goode, Houston, Texas, Cornelia McManus and Reba Dixon, Westbury, N.Y., Doris Freeman, Johnston, S.C., Juanita Robinson, Hempstead, N.Y., and Cassandra McManus, Kingstree, S.C.; seven sons, Talmadge, Columbia, S.C., Felix, Newark, N.J., Lawrence and Edward, Westbury, N.Y., Joseph, Philadelphia, Pa., Gilmore, Andrews, S.C., and Bobby, Hempstead, N.Y.; two brothers, Willie, Saluda, S.C., and George, Johnston, S.C.; thirty grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; six daughters-in-law; five sons-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and sorrowing friends.
