On November 28th, 2008, DEACON ALFRED MCKINNEY entered into the gates of eternal rest, and today we celebrate his life, love and joy.
On February 19,1946, the late Fred Sturgis and the late Carrie Byrd were blessed with their son, Alfred McKinney. Charles McKinney, his grandfather, was blessed to have reared him. At an early age, Deacon McKinney was taught biblical values and principles as he ac cepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He epitomized the "Golden Rule".
Deacon Alfred McKinney was educated in the Richmond County school system and furthered his education at Pierce College, Canoga Park, California and California State University Northridge, California. He played basketball at Lucy C. Laney, where he excelled in the sport. Deacon McKinney was drafted in the Army during the Viet nam Era. Having served honorably and being a wounded Veteran, he received an honorable discharge. After he served faithfully in the Army, Deacon McKinney began a new career with the Department of Energy as a Master Welder. After he retired from the Department of Energy, he worked as a Counselor and security Officer at Augusta Youth Development Center, where he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Most considered him an excellent mentor and leader. Deacon McKinney enjoyed being busy with his newly found career. He devoutly served until his illness. He was also a committed Dea con at the First Baptist Church of Keysville, Inc., where he was the Tribe Leader of Gad. He was a very active, committed, and humble servant. Deacon McKinney loved his Lord and Savior, his family, his church family and work. Furthermore, he was a very wise leader and an excellent listener. He was quite a strength.
Deacon McKinney leaves to cherish his loving, fond and respected memory to: his loving and devoted wife, Deaconess Melvinnie McK inney; beloved daughters, Ayarina McKinney and Te'Rica Chester; caring sons, Neilus (Atoysha) Chester and John Darryl McKinney and Maurice (Linda) McKinney; sisters, Billie Ann Walden, Odessa Barnes and Mary McKinney; great aunt, Hatttie Johnson; and abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Words To My Dad
You are my father, my mentor, and my rock. Dad you're a remarkable man. As your son, I want to say thank you for molding me into the extraordinary man I am today. I know you will continue to watch over me for eternity, just as you have always done. I will never forget about any of the conversations we shared. You always would keep me focused on the positive things in life, even when the world is so negative. Your work is done here and now you can truly enjoy watching me continue to grow as a man. Dad I Love You and tell everybody I said, hello. Thank you again for listening to me and I will see you later.
Love always, Your Son, Neilus Eugene Chester
F is for the faith he had in me A is for the aggression that he gave to fight for our family T is for the thoughts and advice He gave about life H is for the heartfelt love he gave when we went through hard times E is for the effort he made to keep the family together R is for the riches he gave in abundance for love
Al was a man that came into our lives with true love for our family. He took on the responsibilities as a man as well as a father. He epitomized the meaning of what a family should be. He was the type of person that was very family-ori ented and if one were to threaten his family in any way, he would inform them that they were not going to do his family any kind of way. For that, I am very grateful. Al's last words to me were, " I love you all so much". I just want to say that we also love you so much, it is your time and we are going to celebrate your home-going with you.
With Much Sincerity and Love, Your Daughter Te'Rica Chester
Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy! Allow me to begin by stating that I love you. Your love is insuperable except by the Almighty of course. I am very thankful for having the pleasure of you being my loving father. I remember when you would always encourage me. Those words of pertinence are my very ambition to become successful in whatever I do. Because you encouraged me, I have the will-power and the courage to be what you wanted me to be . .. an individual. I must admit, you have taught me so much and so well. Even though I will miss your presence around I do know that you'll be with me in spirit. I believe you're my guardian angel and you will be now and forever more. Please enjoy your home-going celebration! It is definitely your time. Your "Baby-Girl" will miss you, but will never forget you!
With Love, Ayarnia Q. McKinney
