Ok DEACON MOSES MCCAULEY, SR.
Thursday, September 15, 1983 - 4:00 P. M. THANKFUL BAPTIST CHURCH 3rd and Walker Streets Augusta, Georgia

THE DOORKEEPER
Thankful Baptist Church has as its motto - " A Friendly Church With a Friendly Welcome." This motto was not acquired by accusation but rather by fact. At the root of its accuracy was Moses McCauley, Sr. who "had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of his God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness."
Devoted, pleasant, caring, and a most gracious host were his strongest attributes. He made visitors who entered the doors feel more than welcome, and members feel glad about coming. He was an ambassador of goodwill. His life of dedicated service to his God and his fellow man was a beautiful life.
Mose, as he was affectionately called, was born on February 27, 1907, in Abbeville County, S. C. to the late Rev. Johnny C. and Sis. Julia Calhoun McCauley.
He moved to Augusta at the age of twenty and united hisself with Thankful Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. A. G. Davis. He served Thankful well, in sickness and in health, until his day was done.
On April 13, 1936 he was united in Holy wedlock to Irene Williams. This union was blessed with six children. One daughter proceeded him in death.
In 1972, he was retired from employment with the Southern Railroad after forty-five (45) years of faithful service.
Cherishing fond memories are a devoted wife, Irene W. Mc Cauley; three sons, William McCauley, Moses McCauley, Jr., and Bernard McCauley; two daughters, Mozelle M. Wigfall, Bronx, N. Y., and Ossie McCauley; nine grandchildren; one great-grand; one sister, Lilliam M. Cade, Loyndesville, S. C.; three daughters-inlaw, Josie McCauley, Cynthia J. McCauley, and Natine C. Mc Cauley; other relatives, friends, members and visitors of Thank ful Church whom he greeted as - the doorkeeper.
