/ Having heard and heeded the call of his Master, Qeorge Henry Mays, St., departed this life ./m Sunday, January 18, 2004. He was born October 7, 1933, in Keysville, Georgia to the late Mr. Ernest
Mays and Mrs. Luella Martin. He was fondly known as "Bubba".

was married to Mrs. Frances Jones Mays for 43 years. To this union two children were born,

Jennifer and George, Jr.

He was a 1 95 1 graduate of Immaculate Conception Academy. After graduating from high school, he served three years in the United States Army. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Paine College, and his Masters in Education from Augusta State University.

He served as an educator at the Augusta Youth Development Center for thirty years until his retirement in 1989. He was concerned for the quality of life for all people especially our youth. As a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, he was responsible for the organization of the churchs GED Program where he served as the Director. He was a GED Instructor at Augusta State University, and he served on various boards in leadership capacities.

His favorite pastimes were playing golf, writing poetry, and inspiring others. His service to the Lord was exemplified by his service to others. He touched the lives of many troubled youth in this community through his teaching, training, and mentoring.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Mrs. Frances Jones Mays; daughter, Jennifer Mays Wilson, Augusta, GA; son, George H. (Eileen) Mays, Jr., Eatonton, GA; three grandchildren, Brian Long, Amber Mays, and Jayda Mays; one great-grandchild, Brian D. Long; mother, Ms. Luella Martin; one aunt; mother-in-law, Mrs. Genola Jones; two brothers-in-law, Freddie (Shirley) Jones and Joseph (Patricia) Jones, Augusta, GA; one sister-in-law, Sharon (Barry) Turner, Lexington, KY; cousins, Lillie Robinson, Augusta, GA, Carolyn Robinson, Marietta, GA and Gregory Robinson, Detroit, MI; godson, Freddrick Claiborn, Augusta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
