Mrs. Mozzie Williams Mathis, the daughter of the late Simon and Mozzie Williams, was born February 7, 1897, Edgefield County, South Carolina.
As a young girl, Mrs. Mathis attended Bland Baptist Church in her hometown and was baptized their. On December 19, 1920, She joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Deacon Pierce Mathis in Johnson, South Carolina. To this union four Childrens were born.

Mrs. Mathis came to Washington DC. The year of 1921, she joined the First Baptist Church Shermon Ave. and Lamont Street N. W. She was an active Member until 1950, when her cousin (the late Rev. John H. Upson) founded the Beulah Baptist Church. She remained at' the Beulah Baptist Church until the death of Rev. Upson on March 15, 1959, she joined the Little Ark Baptist Church, during the Pastorship of the late Rev. Thomas J. Peyton. Mrs. Mathis was an active and faithful Member of the Little Ark BaptistChu rch until her health began to fail. Mrs. Mathis faith in God never wavered. She loved the Church and all peoples, although we shall miss her, she left her family and friends an inspiring philoso phy, "If you put your trust in Jesus everything will be alright." She used to say "I dare you to
trust him"
As a result of a long illness Mrs. Mathis departed this life at the George Washington Hospital. Sunday June 25, 1972, approximately 3:00 A. M.

She is survived by four Childrens, Mrs. Rosalee Craw ford, Mrs. Betty M. Garrett, Mr. John E. Mathis and
Mr. Melvin S. Mathis, a sister Mrs. Laura Raiford, a brother Mr. Theodore R. Williams, five grandchil drens, seven great grandchildrens, many "adopted"
childrens and a host of other relatives and friends.
