ELD ER JULIUS MASON, SR.
Elder Julius Mason Sr. is a native of Lincolnton Georgia. He is the forth son of the both late Rev. William Thomas and Mary Lena Mason. He has one loyal brother, W elcom e (Rubye) Mason and one sister-n-law Hilda (late Alexander) Mason. He was perceived in death by tw o siblings: William and Constance Mason. He received his education in the public schools of Lincoln County. Julius Mason Sr. served in the United States Armed Forces before obtaining his Bachelors of Science Degree at Fort Valley State College. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Until Death W e Shall Part...
Mr. Julius Mason Sr. met and married the " Love" of his life at Fort Valley State. Lila Duhart Mason is from Houston County Georgia. She is the daughter of the late Festus Duhart and Mrs. Clara Duhart McGriff. Lila has one brother Samuel Duhart.

Julius and Lila Mason Sr. arrived in Jackson County, Georgia approximately 44 years ago. They relocated as family with their 5 children, sons Thomas D eG ary (deceased 1985), Festus Cornelious, Julius (Sherry) Stewart Jr., (deceased 2004) daughters Lena Margueritte Mason and Claranita Arnell.
"I am the vine; you are the branches. I f a man remains in me, and I in him, he will bear much fru it" JO H N 15:5. Mr. and Mrs. Mason are blessed with five grandchildren Bernice, Brandon, DeGaria Alena, Imani, and JuLian. They have one great-grandchild named Aziryah, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

"For God did not give us a spirit o f cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and o f love and of self-discipline." Elder Julius Mason Sr. joined Sardis Presbyterian Church, operated Mason Funeral Home in Jefferson Ga and then re-opened the establishment in Commerce Ga. Mr. Mason retired from Alto Correctional Institute with more than 30 years of teaching in public schools. Mr. Mason served and was members of numerous organizations. He loved to " Sing Praises to our Lord" and was known for his distinct melodious tenor voice.

"Be merciful to me, 0 God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow o f your wings I will take refuge, until the destroying storms pass by." PSALM 5 7 :1. Both Julius and Lila Mason believe in helping other people. They operated DeG ary's Personal Care Home for more than 15years. They have welcomed strangers, homeless, and people down on their luck into their home and helped everyone they come in contact with. The Mason's provided an informal transportation service, where they helped families get to local and out of town doctor appointments.

Mr. and Mrs. Julius Mason Sr. have dedicated their lives, time,

talents, and heart to be in assistance to others. "Do not neglect to show

hospitality to strangers, for by so doing that some have entertained angels

without knowing i t "

He was one of the founding members of the Jackson County NAACP. Jackson County Christian Organization. Mr. Mason was a Scout leader Received honorable discharge from the United States Army. FFA leader a& advisor Taught agricultural science at Bryan High and Jackson County High schools. He helped families to secure loan to build homes and the farmers to improve their capital gain, by introducing new ideas. Mr. Mason coached the girl's basketball team. He was a member of North Georgia Black Leadership Council Served on the action board of directors. Served on the board for Jefferson Public Library Mr. Mason was an elder at the Sardis Presbyterian Church, where he served for many years. He was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, Sang with many of the local choirs in the community, and rendered many solos. He received numerous awards for his community action.
