Mrs Manola Earl Lockerf was one of several children born to George and Sara Willis of Washington, Georgia. She came to Augusta at an early age and receiv ed her elementary education at the First Ward School, and was a graduate of Haines High School under the lale Miss Lucy Craft Laney. After graduation she taught for a while in the High School Department of Paine College. Later she served as a typist for a reporter of the Augusta Herald, and as secretary for Dr. George N. Stoney of Augusta.
In 1923 she married Robert L. Lockett, a graduate of Howard University Dental School, and to this union were born two daughters, Imogene Earl and Barbara Lee.
Mrs. Lockett was a loyal and devoted member of Christ United Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., serving with the United Presbyterian Women's Organization and on the Deacons' Board. Her civic and social activities included the Auxiliary to the Stoney Medical and Dental Association, the Women's Civic Club of Augusta, the Alphabets, and the Augusta Chapter of Links, Inc.
Mrs. Manola Lockett died on Tuesday, November 19, 1968, having been active in her community affairs until her rather sudden demise. A person blessed with good and lovable traits, and who sincerely treasured her many friends, she will be sorely missed.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Lockett; daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Steward Pickett of Louisville, Kentucky; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Gortrell of Wash ington, Georgia; a brother, Mr. Walter Willis of Chicago, Illinois; three grand sons, Steward T. and Robert Lee Pickett, Louisville, Kentucky and Michael Eustace of New York; and a son-in-law, Robert Eustace of New York; sistersin-law, Mrs. Walter Willis, Chicago, Illinois and Mrs. Amaza Lockett of Atlantic City, New Jersey; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
