A Life Lived

" If l have helped somebody as l passed along the way, then my living shall not be in vain. "
A life ended on December 19, 1998. On this day,
cDeacon<5c7Clcfleiir6cl cTred J^etois, was taken from
us when the Lord took him unto Himself.
The angels whispered "Well done thy good and faithful servant; you have fought the battle, you have earned the victorv, enter into thy Master's joy."
Deacon Fred Lewis was bom on October 11, 1932, in Lake City, Florida to the late Mr. Wiley and Mrs. Eva Mays Lewis.
He attended the public schools of Lake City. At an early age, Fred accepted Christ and became a member of Truevine Baptist Church in Lake City.
In 1952, he enlisted in the United States Army. While stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta, in 1954, he met the love of his life, Rosa Bernice Mixson. They were united in Holy Matrimony on May 10,1955. To this union, one daughter was bom.
While in the Army, Fred earned numerous medals to include six Good Conduct Medals, several Service Medals and the Bronze Star Medal. During his tour of duty to Vietnam, Korea and Germany ~ he found time to admit Christ in his life again, becoming a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. He served dutifully as Chairman of Board of Trustees, The Board of Deacons, The Missionary Circle, and the Male Chorus. After serving twenty-three years in the Army, he retired and worked as the Supervisor of Building Management at the Veterans Administration Hospital for fifteen years before retiring.
As we pause today to celebrate the life of Fred Lewis, let us prayerfully remember his loved ones who will forever cherish his loving memories: his lovingly devoted wife, Rosa Bernice Lewis; his loving daughter, Phyllis Lewis Thomas; son-in-law, John H. A Reflection of a Beautiful Life. . . A Testament to Love, Friendship,
Family and Life
You left me on Saturday morning after more than forty-four years o f togetherness. It was so hard to say Good-bye. You were a good and loving husband, father, father-in-law, "Papa" and friend. We have shared sorrows and joy and I will miss you deeply. But, we will see each other again . . . My everlasting love.
Rosa
It's difficult to believe that you won't be here with us physically. We know you'll be looking down on us from your place in Heaven. Thank you for being a role model to all of us, Daddy - a loving "Papa", father-in-law andfriend. We love you.
