MR. ASBURY N. LAWTON entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Inez Personal Care Home. He was born June 22, 1926 in Allendale, South Carolina to the late Reverend Asbury Lawton, Sr. and Mrs. Sarah McCrady Lawton. He was baptized at an early age at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.
He attended Allendale County Training School and graduated from South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He soon moved to Augusta, Georgia after graduation and became employed with Pilgrim Life Insurance Company; he worked there until the company closed.
Shortly after he came to Augusta, he joined Tabernacle Baptist Church and was very active with the church until his health failed. He served on Tabernacles Credit Union Board and for many years served with the Trustee Ministry.
He was very active with the South Carolina State Alumni Association. Throughout the years, he worked in the community tutoring students and he became an entrepreneur of Lawton Accounting Services.
Later years he was appointed to the Daniel Field General Aviation Commission an became member Emeritus.
Asbury loved his family and friends. He was a friend to everyone he met. He loved his church and greeted everyone with a smile at all times.
Asbury leaves to cherish his memories: sister, Janie L. Glencamp of Sumter, South Carolina; brother, Henry C. Lawton, Sr. of Ridgeland, South Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Lillian C. Lawton of Allendale, South Carolina, Edna J. Lawton of Hampton, Virginia and Evelyn F. Lawton of Allendale, South Carolina; a loving devoted niece, Jeannette Lawton of Augusta, Georgia; special friends, Ruth B. Hailey, Ida C. Tutt and Arbernice Rouse; and several other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
