A life well-lived came to a close on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Lexington Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina.
Horace w as born on May 6,1949 in Aiken County to Mr. Arthur D. Lamback, Sr. and Mrs. Armelia Lamback. He w as united in Holy Matrimony to Gwendolyn Fryer of Augusta, Georgia on July 17, 1976. He w as the proud father of three children, Tonya Chinn, Timeka Cline and Horace T. Lamback,

Horace loved his family and would do anything for his friends. His wife w as the love of his life and he treated her like a queen. He cherished his time with his brothers who affectionately called each other "Bo" and his loving sisters who took such good care of him. He didn't believe in in-laws so he accepted the Fryer family with loving arms and with his wife, were the primary caretakers of his father-in-law. His children lovingly called him "Superman" and grandchildren called him "PaPa". He w as so proud his children found great people to share their lives with: Floyd, April and Jeffrey. His nieces and nephews loved him as well and warmly called him "T R G ", "Unc" or "Uncle Harris". He enjoyed dining with his previous co-workers, students and was humbled they took the time to honor him any chance they could get.
Horace joined Carpentersville Baptist Church in 1958 during the pastorate of Reverend H. B. Bady to the current pastor, Reverend Herman Bing. He served faithfully in several capacities including Chairman of the Trustee Board, Deacon Board, Finance Committee, Pastor's Appreciation Committee, Building Fund, and coordinated the building of the new church. Other capacities in which he served throughout the years were member of the Male Chorus and M ass Choir.
Horace's education was in the public schools of Aiken County. He graduated from Jefferson High School, C lass of 1967. He received a B.S. degree from Voorhees College in 1971, a M.Ed. in Counseling, Administration and Supervision from South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, South Carolina in 1978, and an Ed.S. in Administration and Supervision from Tuskegee Institute in 1982.
Horace w as a charter member of the Sigma Theta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. at Voorhees College in the Fall of 1970 and w as an active member in his fraternity for forty-six years. Upon graduation from college, Horace began his teaching career in Aiken County followed by Burke County and Richmond County. His academic career included teacher of Math at Jackson High in Jackson, South Carolina; Palmer Elementary, Keysville, Georgia and Blakney Junior High in Waynesboro, Georgia. He served as Career Education instructor at Langford Middle, Guidance Counselor at Hephzibah High and later as an Assistant Principal. Mr. Lamback taught M ath at Georgia Military College, Fort Gordon, Georgia and Adult Education. He began his Administrative Career as Principal of Lamar Elementary, Tubman Middle, A.R. Johnson Health, Science and Engineering, and T.W. Josey High School. Throughout the years, he also worked as an Adult Education teacher. Upon his retirement from Josey, Horace w as Director of an Out-of-School Youth Program at Lower Savannah Council of Governments (The Paxen Group, Inc.) in Aiken County. He later joined the Cambridge College administrative staff in Augusta as Assistant to the Director.

Mr. Lamback w as a strong supporter of the Voorhees College Alumni Association and served as Treasurer for the CSRA Chapter. He had the distinct honor of serving on the National Executive Alumni Board. He w as past President of the Richmond County Association of Educators (RCAE), member of the NAACP, Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) as the State Legislative contact person and Chairman of Policies and Resolutions Committee, National Education Association (NEA), National Association of Black School Educators (NABSE), and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for forty-xix years. In that capacity, he served as Basileus from 2001-2004 and w as honored as Omega Man of the Year 1995-1996. He w as a member of the Richmond County Principals Association Executive Board, Vice Chairman of the G A Ps Black Caucus; Outstanding Young Educator, Richmond County, Augusta Jaycees, and Richmond County Principals Association Phi Delta Kappa. He was appointed Bugle Player for the American Legion Post #232, in North Augusta, South Carolina for a number of years, and w as a member of Simmons Masonic Lodge #571 in North Augusta, South Carolina.
Mr. Lam back's parents, Arthur and Armelia Lamback are deceased. He w as youngest of twelve children. He w as also preceded in death by his brothers, Fred Lamback (Mamie Lamback), Philadelphia, PA and Arthur Lamback, North Augusta, SC; sisters, Rosa Lamback, North Augusta, SC and Susie Lamback Prince (Edward Prince), Atlanta, GA; mother-in-law, Mary Fryer Smith; brother-in-law, Percy Barnes; sister-in-law, Carrie Lamback; and brother-in-law, Herman D. Fryer.
Survivors include: his devoted wife of thirty-nine and a half years, Gwendolyn Fryer Lamback; his two daughters, Tonya Chinn (fiance Jeffrey Johnson), Trenton, SC and Dr. Timeka L. Cline (Floyd J. Cline II), Kennesaw, GA; his son, Mr. Horace T. Lamback, Jr. (April Lamback), Augusta, GA; his grandchildren, Jordan Chinn, Trenton, SC, Floyd J. Chne III "Trey" and Alaina L. Cline, Kennesaw, GA; his adopted mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Lowe, Augusta, GA; siblings, John D. Lamback, North Augusta, SC, Dr. Charles R. Lamback, Sr. (Judy Lamback), Augusta, GA, Alfonso Lamback (Mary Lamback), Aiken, SC, Fannie Stewart (Rufus Stewart) Bath, SC, Jearlyn Barnes, North Augusta, SC, Louise Green (Willie Green), Bath, SC and Christine Chandler (William Chandler, Sr.), North Augusta, SC; one uncle, Reverend Dr. Nathanial Irvin (Eugenia Irvin), North Augusta, SC; one aunt, Marie Key; a father-in-law, Johnny Fryer, Martinez, GA; brother-in-law, Bobby Fryer, Sr. (LeSherma Fryer), DouglasviUe, GA; sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Thomas (Lee Thomas), Kingston, GA, Edith Fryer Larke (special friend Dr. Charles Larke), Martinez, GA, Norma Fryer Cato, Evans, GA and Leona Fryer, Augusta, GA; devoted godchildren, Alfonso Demond Gibbs, Rhondi Bennings, Tamara Moody, Danielle Cobb and Marcus Williams; adopted children, Pamela Cobb, Alberta Long, Eric Bing, Zykeia Curry and several others; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
