Mr. Horatio Vincent LaMar was born to Elijah Carey and Katie Vincent LaMar in the small village of Fraizerville, just outside Augusta, Georgia. On February 19, 1998, eternal sleep claimed him, and he joined his parents and three brothers, (infant) Carl Dieton LaMar, Elijah LaMar, Jr. and Lavozier LaMar, Sr., who had preceded him in death. Mr. Lamar was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of the former Haines Normal Industrial Institute, Augusta, Ga., and Morehouse College, Atlanta, Ga. In high school and college, Mr. LaMar excelled as an athlete in both softball and football. At Morehouse College, his lightening speed earned him the nickname, "The Galloping Ghost."^ As a young man he spent summers working at ER Squibb, a company that manufactured medicine, and on the riverboat, the Hudson Dayline, whose route ran from New york City to Albany, New York. After graduating from Morehouse, Mr. LaMar returned to Augusta to teach at Haines Normal Industrial Institute and from there to Lucy C. Laney High School. The subjects he taught during his career were Sociology, Psychology, History, Civics and Economics. In the late 1960's, he returned to the University of South Carolina and Savannah State College to certify to teach Driver's Education. He assisted with coaching of the softball and football teams. During a career that spanned for more than forty years, Mr. Lamar touched the lives of nearly every one in the Augusta Black Community. He loved his school. He loved his students, and they in turn, loved him back. Mr. LaMar was a US Army veteran, former Grand Marshall of the Elk's IVOP Organization, a member of the VFW, and past President of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He received numerous awards and acknowledgments during his lifetime. Mr. LaMar is survived by a brother, Vernon Lamar, Sr.; sister-in-law Rosabell Reid LaMar; two nephews, Vernon LaMar, Jr. and Lavozier LaMar, Jr., New Jersey; four nieces, Katie LaMar, Brenda W. Brown, LaReine Kurtz, New Jersey and Marcell Glickman, California. A beloved and devoted compan ion, Elizabeth House, Augusta; cousins, godchildren and friends.

^footprints!
One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along
the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand:
one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life, there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him, and he questioned the LORD about it. "LORD, You said that once I decided to follow You, Youd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I dont understand why when I needed You most You would leave me." The LORD replied, "My son my precious child. I love you, and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you. "
The family of Mr. Horatio LaMar extend profound appreciation to you for each act of kindness and expression of sympathy. To the participants who took time from their busy lives to mourn with us, thank you for your comfort in our hour of grief and remembrance. (Services entrusted to The Historical Dents Undertaking Establishment.)
A very special thank you to the Beaulah Grove Baptist Church.
