LILLIAN M ARGARET MOORE KENNER was the sixth o f eight children horn to Edward M oore and Cora Benning Moore. She and her siblings, Elliott Moore (Geraldine), Levessie Moore Avery (Ruben), Claude Moore (Willie Mae), Luberta Moore Garnett (Charles), Ruth Moore Lowe (Francis), Frank Moore (Wanda), and Leon M oore (Geraldine), grew up in Appling, Georgia. The fam ily moved to Augusta around the time Lillian was to attend and graduate from Haines Institute.
She married John O. Kenner and they had a plan fo r their children that they worked together to bring tofruition. He was the "bread winner" and she stayed home to nurture the children. A fter the youngest child went to school, Lillian became one o f fou r African-Americans who were the first school crossing guards in Augusta, Georgia.
Lillian'sfirstfull-time job was at Talmadge Hospital, now the Medical College o f Georgia, as a Nurse Assistant. She loved working on the 5 W est Unit helping the patients. She even brought patients to her home who could not afford to go home on holidays. She retired from this position in 1987.
She joined Antioch Baptist Church over 60 years ago and later became a member o f the newly form ed Gospel Chorus, remaining active after it merged into the Combined Chorus.
Lillian's creative writing skills, coupled with her organizational and motivational skills, werefrequently used at Antioch when she chaired Easter, Christmas and Women's Day Events. In her later years, Lillian enjoyed Antioch's senior citizens trips as well as its spiritual sustenance. For the last five years, illness prevented her from attending church. However, her Christian spirit was evident in her cheerful attitude, polite nature and loving heart.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter Gwendolyn KennerJohnson (Martin), Chicago, Illinois; two sons, John O. Kenner Jr. (Paulette), Augusta, Georgia and Thomas Edward Kenner (Melody), Stone Mountain, Georgia; five grandchildren, Michele Jolivette,Chicago, Illinois, Shawn and Tammi Kenner, Augusta, Georgia, Brian Kenner (Sylvie), Washington, D.C. and Traci Kenner Browne (Rosh), Stone Mountain, Georgia; great-granddaughter Teal Jolivette, Miami, Florida; great-grandson Leighton Aubrey Yarbrough, Chicago, Illinois; great-grandson Mason Kenner Browne, Stone Mountain, Georgia; great-great granddaughter Janiah Williams; sister, Levessie Moore Avery o f Jamaica, New York; sisterin-law, Willie Mae Moore o f Augusta, Georgia; and a host o f other relatives and friends.

It is he and honora
to weep at the loss o f someone we love.
Healthy because such passion must be released.
Honorable because it is respectful to admit the importance of people
who have loved and supported us...
m people whose footprints cannot ever be matched.
