Ms. Patricia (Pat) Ann Jones was born in Emanuel County, Swainsboro, Georgia to Mr. Irvin Burton and Mrs. Carrie Lee McKinney. She attended Swainsboro High School in Swainsboro, Georgia. She later moved to Augusta, GA, where she founded the Augusta Youth Center in 1984. Augusta Youth Center was originally located in a two-bedroom apartment in the Sunset Homes community of the Augusta Housing Authority in 1999. After numerous moves throughout the years necessitated by growing enrollment and programs, the center moved to 602 3rd Street. In 2003, the Augusta Youth Center moved into its current facility. She was a member of Everfaithful Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her illness.
On Wednesday, December 20, 2006, Pat entered into rest at the University Hospital following an extended illness. Preceded her in death, are her parents Irvin Burton and Carrie Lee McKinney, and parents, Rev. Richard and Mrs. Leola Lawrence Sr., brother, Charlie "Weaver" McKinney, Jr., daughter, Cheryl "Jenny" Denise McKinney, god-son, Jeffery Labord, and grandson, LaPatrick McKinney; Survivors include her loving son: Vincent Bernard McKinney of Conyers, Georgia; five grandchildren, Shakina Patrice McKinney, YaVona Janae McKinney, Vincent Bryton McKinney, Shatrice Lewis, and Letrese Freeman; one great-grandchild, LaCheryl LaPatrice McKinney; Four brothers, Michael Derrick McKinney, Carl McKinney, Dewayne McKinney, Richard (Edna) Lawrence Jr. all of Summertown, GA; four sisters, Vickie (Levi) Freeman of Metter, GA, Mary Sue Kendrix and Jeannette Sherrod of Summertown, GA, Loretta (Donald) Brown of Waynesboro, GA, a very close and special friend, Marie Hawkins; and a host of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, god-children, relatives and friends.
