BEATRICE ELIZABETH ROSS JOFEMSON was born January 18,1919 to Mrs. Mattie Wilson Ross and Mr. Gary Ross. Sbe was tbe oldest of ber three sisters, Lawuna Berrien, Mildred Berrien and K atie Gilbert. Sbe was a native of Augusta, Georgia, where sbe attended tbe schools of Richmond County.
Born and raised in Tbanklul Baptist Church, at the age of twelve, she confessed Christ and was baptized. She was an active member of numerous ministries. During her young age, she would pull the ropes to assist the musician in playing the pipe organ. She was a member of the Senior choir under the direction of Mrs. Myrtle Blount for many years. In her youthful years, she and her sister, Lawuna sang duets representing Thankful throughout the Augusta area. Beatrice enjoyed singing. She faithfully served in various ministries: the Usher Board, Willing Workers Ministry, and the Senior Mission. She thoroughly enjoyed the Senior Citizens Luncheons and Outings. She faithfully attended church until her declining health.
In 1935, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Wilber Johnson, Sr. (Daddy Wilber). To this union was born eight children, Wilber, Jr. (Dirk), Constance (Connie), Richard, Joe, Eleanor, Melvin, Brenda and Glenn. Mur and Daddy labored hard to raise their children by the words don t spare the rod and spoil the child. They believed in their children attending Sunday School, Baptist Training Union (BTU), and church service. They were married fifty -two and a half years.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her children and many friends affectionately called her Mur. She dearly loved her children unconditionally and knew the unique characteristics and qualities of each child. Because of her faith and strong belief in God, she instilled in her children that a family that prays together stays together. She always encouraged us to work in the church and serve God faithfully. She instilled the importance of education.
Mur was a member of the Sportsman s Boat Club W omen sAuxiliary for over fifty years. Her husband, the late Wilber Johnson, Sr., was one of the founding members of this chartered organization. She always supported him in his business ventures and investments. She was the wind beneath his wings. Mur s past time was playing the keyboard. She could play Christian songs just by listening to them.
Three of her children preceded her in death, Wilber, Jr. (Dirk), 77, Constance (Connie), 9 9 and Eleanor 2010. She leaves to cherish her fond memories: four sons, Richard (Linda) Johnson of Aiken, SC, Joe E.(C1ara) Johnson, Melvin (Barbara) Johnson, Glenn (Mater) Johnson of Evans, GA; daughter, Brenda (Rube) Hankinson of Hephzibali, G A ' daughter-in-law, Ida Johnson; son-in-law, Lindsay Carpenter, Jr.; twenty-five grandchildren, forty-four great grandchildren and thirty great-great grandchildren; nephews, Herman (Selena) Berrien, Gary Berrien, Carl (Robberstine) Berrien and Dennis Berrien; devoted and loyal friend, Annie Johnson and devoted and loyal caretaker, Mirian Carpenter.

Grieve for me, for I would grieve for you. Then brush away the sorrow and the tears
Life is not over, but begins anew, With courage you must greet the coming years.
To live forever in the past is wrong; It can only cause you misery and pain.
Dwell not on memories overlong, With others you must share and care again. Reach out and comfort those who comfort you;
Recall the years, out only for a while. Nurse not your loneliness; but live again.
Forget not. Remember with a smile. ' A N avaho Prayer -
