8 Celebration of Hife
"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
A time to be born:
Mr. Leroy "Jake" Johnson, the eighth born child of nine children was born on July 14, 1931 in Grovetown, Georgia to the late Gertrude Grant Johnson and Thomas Johnson.
A time to learn and live: ^
At an early age, the family relocated to Augusta, Georgia. Although Jake was mentally challenged, he attended Lyndale Training School for several years. He was well known by most that lived in the Sand Hills Community. Jake loved to laugh and he loved people. He loved being in their presence, he especially loved babies. Jake greeted everyone with his beautiful smile and modest laughter.
A time to serve:
Jake loved the Lord. He was baptized at an early age and was a member of Rock of Ages Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.
A time to die...
On Sunday, August 13, 2006, Mr. Leroy "Jake" Johnson made the transition from life into the presence of Gods domain. He leaves memories that will be forever cherished in the hearts of his loved ones, a devoted sister, Marie Peters Brown, Augusta, Georgia, his eldest sister, Irene Peterson, Newark, New Jersey; one brother, Alfred (Ophelia) Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths ofrighteousnessfor His names sake. Tea, though I walk through the valley of the shad ow ofdeath, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence ofmine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days ofmy life: and I will dwell in the house ofthe LORD for ever.

We are most grateful to God for the gift of friends like you who have been so kind and thoughtful. Your prayers, calls, words of encouragement, flowers, and the many acts of kindness, both seen and unseen, have truly given us strength and inspiration during this time. A special thanks to Mrs. Lucille Kyler, Mrs. Inez Thomas, Southeastern Regional Mental Health, United Hospice and the Augusta Hills staff for all the love and care. Thank you and may God continue to bless you.
