Joey Xavior Johnson was born in Augusta, Georgia on August 5, 1971. He was educated in Richmond County Schools and was a graduate of Academy of Richmond County School. He furthered his education by attending Albany State University, Augusta State University, and Voorhees College where he was on the deans list and would have received his degree in Organizational Management in May, 2004. He was a graduate of Augusta Technical College where he received his Emergency Medical Technician Certificate. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
While attending Augusta State University, he served as manager of Augusta State University Jaguar Mens Basketball Team. He also served as Head Coach of the Georgia/Lina Lady 76ers Girls Basketball Team, youth 15 and under.
He was employed by Augusta-Richmond County Fire Department Engine Company No. 15 and Gold Cross Ambulance Service. He was a member of First New Hope Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Leonard Barksdale, Sr; maternal great-grandparents, Kendrick and Rosa Jackson; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Lillie Mae Johnson; paternal great-grandparents, Arthur and Jessie Reynolds; and paternal uncle, Arthur Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents Joe A. (Virginia B.) Johnson; one brother, Jarrett Johnson; maternal grandparents, Sam (Bertha) Singleton; six aunts, Betty (Fred) Harrison, Rosemary (Jason) Beard, Lilliemae Johnson, Joyce Kendrick, Elaine Johnson and Gail Johnson; seven uncles, James (Linda) Seabrooks, Calvin Johnson, Emanuel (Loretta) Johnson, Leonard Barksdale, Jr., Willie (Josie) Barksdale, Isaiah Barksdale, and Kenneth Barksdale; a host of loving cousins, other relatives and friends.
