OBITUARY
On Sunday, July 8, 2001, Royall Christian Johnson, beloved son of Ruth and the late Royall Johnson, departed this life at Albert Einstein Hospital.
Royall was born in Richmond, Virginia on April 30, 1926; he was the second of nine children. His parents relocated to 312 W. 111 th Street in Manhattan when Royall was about three years old. RoyalPs Godfather was writer Conte Cullen, who authored The Lost Zoo; papa said Conte Cullen referred to him in this book. Royall attended elementary school at PS 157. In 1942, the Johnson Family relocated to the Bronx. Royal graduated from the Bronx Vocational School in 1944, where he learned the trade of sketching blueprints and cabinet making.
On May 30,1958, Royall was united in marriage with the late Annie Williamson (Johnson). Royall worked in plastics, construction with the Local Board 147. His last occupations were a Machinist Foreman for 17 years at Columbia Denta-Form of Manhattan (now LI City), and lastly a Prop Adjuster at Rockefeller Center for Sesame Street at ABC. Royall was a "Lifetime Entrepreneur".
Royall loved to Box, play softball, fish, and spend time with his grandchildren. He boxed for the Salem Crescent Methodist Church on 129th & 7th Avenue, as a young man. Royall was a Golden Glove Boxer Finalist.
Royall was a softball pitcher for Rockefeller Center and won many trophies for them in the mid 50s and 60s. He was in "high demand and many teams would call him to fill in for their pitcher". Royall pitched with pinpoint control. His trademark was dragging his right foot while pitching. This would cause him to wear a hole in the front of a new pair of sneakers. Royall would tape the front of his right sneaker to prevent having to buy a new pair every other week.
Royall established the Throggs Neck Project Little League where he organized, coached and managed eight baseball teams for approximately three years. He did this since the Throggs Neck Little League in the Bronx did not .welcome Blacks and Hispanics; some years later, Royall volunteered in the latter league when Blacks and Hispanics were allowed to participate.
Royall was an avid fisherman; he would fish from the surf but enjoyed deep-sea fishing even more. Despite his love for fishing, Royall never ate fish but gave his catch away to family and friends.
Royall joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Rockville Centre, NY on June 1, 1997, where Reverend Herman Washington is the Pastor.
Royall was known for being a conversationalist, "having an opinion about every topic", and speaking up for the underdog.
Royall C. Johnson leaves to cherish his memories: his sons- Leonard, Lance & Marc; daughters-in-law- Andrea, Renee & Aileen; grandchildren- Kimberly, Alena, Brittany, Amanda, Marc, Brandon & Caelan; mother-Ruth Clark Johnson; brothers & sisters- Aileen, Delores, Emory, Marlene, Wallace & Robert; 1 aunt Lottie Norman, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, relatives, friends, & last but not least his cocker spaniel Spanky "Too Tough" Johnson.
"Royall C. Johnson (Roy, Dad, grandpa, pop & papa) we loved you but GOD loved you best"!

I Want You to Know
A brief moment of darkness was all that I knew before heavens gate came into my view
loved ones and friends I had missed for many years welcomed me with open arms and many happy tears
all the hurt, fear and pain that I have ever known is gone from my life I am finally home
I gazed upon the LORDs sweet smiling face and for the first time in my life I knew and felt HIS grace
I know that you miss me but please dry your eyes I will always be watching and loving you from my home in the sky
a cool breeze on your face, a touch of light rain I will send as a reminder that we will be reunited again
life on earth is but one brief moment in time I am finally home eternity is mine
"LET NOT your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Fathers house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. "
John 14: 1-4

Perhaps you sent a lovely card, or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent a funeral spray, if so we saw it there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words that any friend could say. Perhaps you were not there at all just thought of us that day. Whatever you did to console our hearts we thank you so much, whatever the part.
