O b itu a ry
The Homegoing of Mr. Andrew A. Jenkins has brought us together today to celebrate the life and legacy of one we all knew and loved. On Saturday, April 30,2011 at Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta, GA. our beloved was called to his eternal resting place by his Heavenly Father.
Andrew was bom on March 11, 1932 in Augusta, GA to the late Charlie and Sarah Jenkins. Preceded him in death were his three brothers, Rufus, Jessie and Edward Jenkins and two sisters, Gegartha and Charlene Jenkins.
At an early age, Andrew accepted Christ into his heart and was baptized at The Seven Day Adventist Church in Augusta, GA where he served as a member until becoming a member of Beulah Grove Baptist Church in Augusta, GA.
Andrew graduated from Richmond County Public School System and Paine College where he received a B.S. Degree in Biology and Natural Sciences. Later returning to college, he received a Masters Degrees in Chemistry and Physics from several institutions.
Andrew served in the United States Marine Corps as a Sergeant with tours in the Vietnam and Korean Wars. Andrew worked in the Richmond County School System and retired from the Burke County School System in 2010.
God gave Andrew a profound love for teaching and he demonstrated it very well by reaching out to his students in every way. Andrew was also a dedicated fisherman and hunter with great respect for the outdoors. At the age of 27, Andrew married his beautiful wife Sara whom he addressed as "Hazel" and from this union four children were bom.
Those he left behind to celebrate his homegoing include his children: three sons, Troy Anthony Jenkins, Seattle, Washington, Mark Andrew (Calesha) Jenkins, Augusta, GA, Darrell Johnathan Jenkins, South Carolina; one daughter, Belinda Michelle Jenkins, Augusta, GA; three grandchildren, Anthony Deon Jenkins, Jazmine Tanksley and Yasmin Key; two sisters, Vemice Arrington and Dorothy Evans, Augusta, GA; two brothers-in-law, Johnny (Delores) Brooks, Augusta, GA and Freddie (Linda) Brooks, Atlanta, GA; four sisters-in-law, Gonza Lee Jenkins, Los Angeles, CA, Louise Jenkins, Mary Thompson, and Katherine Brooks, Augusta, GA and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends
