Mrs. Ruby Thomas jenkins, the fifth child of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Thomas, was born February 20, 1898 in Augusta, Georgia.
At an early age, she united herself with Trinity C.M.E. Church. It was at Trinity where she received her Baptism, shared her talents, and received her spiritual nourishment.
Her educational background was accomplished primarily in one place. She matriculated at Paine College for her elementary, secondary, and college training. She later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and a Masters Degree from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago.
Her professional career consisted teaching at Bettis Academy in South Carolina, the Public School System of Richmond County, and Paine College. It was at Paine where she directed the Colleges Music Program for over half a century and she received the status of Faculty Emeritus upon her retirement in 1972.
In 1957, she united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Solomon M. Jenkins. They remained with each other until her health condition rendered her incapable of caring for herself. She departed this life Tuesday night, November 13, 1984, approximately 8:00 p.m. from Blair House Nursing Home.
Survivors include a devoted husband, Mr. S.M. Jenkins of Augusta, Georgia; one niece, Mrs. Thelma King of Chicago, Illinois; one nephew, Mr. Bobby Johnson of Brooklyn, New York; one cousin, Mrs. Gertrude Manning of Augusta, and a host of other relatives and friends.
