RICHARD HOWARD, son of the late Sabie and Mary V. Howard was born on October 19, 1932. He was the fourth of 14 children. He entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 17, 1997 at Harlem Hospital in New York City, New York.
RICHARD grew up in a Christian home and received his early education in Sumter, South Carolina. His religious training began at an early age at St. Luke A.M.E. Church in Sumter, South Carolina.
He moved to New York City in 1951, where he worked to help his proud parents with his younger sisters and brothers. He met and married his love ly bride, Rosa Mae Adams on December 18, 1958.
He continued his religious training at the Greater Emmanuel Baptist Church in New York, where he was ordained a Deacon, under the pastoral guidance of the late Rev. T T. Gooden, Sr.
He enjoyed the game of golf and joined the New York Shotmakers Golf Club, where he enjoyed years of golfing and championships.
He retired in October 1994 from the Rockland State Hospital in Orangeburg, N. Y.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 39 years, Rosa Mae (Monkey) Howard (New York); two daughters, Lillian Lee (Clarence) (New York City, NY) and Lynette General (Newark, NJ); a son, Jeffrey Scott (Hampton, Va.); a grandson, Master Christopher Lee (New York City, NY); four sisters, Isabella Weston, Emma Charles, Thelma Evans (Harvey Sr.) (Sumter, SC) and Rosa M. Colclough (Concord, NC); a brother, Rev. Harton Howard (Brooklyn, NY); a goddaughter, Sharon O. Adams (New York City, NY); a godson, Anthony Montgomery (Brooklyn, NY); two adopted daugh ters, Harriet Haws and Thelma Irons (both of New York City, NY); 12 sis ters-in-law; nine brothers-in-law; three aunts; an uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed by all of his loved ones.
