A Time to be Born: Jerome Holmes, Sr. was born October 7, 1930, in Burke
County, to Bessie H. Warren and Charlie Philpot.
A Time to Serve: Jerome Holmes was baptized at New Springfield Baptist
Church at an early age.
A Time to Love: Jerome married Ella Mae Heath; into this union, eight
children were born Bessie H. Brickhouse of Augusta, Ga., Jerome Holmes, Jr. of Montgomery, Ala., Inus Holmes of Miami, Fla., Linda Ellison of Atlanta, Ga., Terry Holmes of Brunswick, Ga., Debbie Holmes of Waynesboro, Ga., Clinton Davis of Atlanta, Ga., and Christine Davis of Augusta, Ga.
A Time to Die: On Tuesday, Jan. 18, 1994, he departed this life at the
Burke County Hospital, Waynesboro, Ga.
A Time to Mourn: He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother and father;
eight children and two step-children (whom he reared); two brothers, Elroy Philpot of Augusta, Ga., and Willie J. Philpot of Newark, N.J.; three sisters, Geneva Philpot of Augusta, Ga., Gwen Brown of Waynesboro, Ga., and Ella Brown of Augusta, Ga.; three sons-in-law; one aunt; four brothers-inlaw; three sisters-in-law; 18 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: For the former things are passed away.
