OBITUARY
MR. JOHN PERSHING HOLLEY SR. of 102 Church Street, St. Matthews, South Carolina, departed this life on January 20, 1996. He was born in Richland County, the son of the late William S. Holley and Katherine Weston Holley, and the husband of Willie Esther Means Holley, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Holley was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1938. He was the owner of Holley Funeral Home Inc. of St. Matthews and J. P. Holley Funeral Home of Columbia. He was a member of the South Carolina Morticians Association, the Columbia Morticians Association, the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association and Embalmers Association, a Mason, and a former member of St. Phillip AME Church of Eastover, South Carolina.
Survivors include, two daughters, Mrs. Gloria H. Browning of Pacoina, California and Ms. Cheryl A. Holley of Columbia; one son, John P. Holley Jr. of Columbia; three foster sons, Deacon Oliver Thomas of Columbia, Mr. Eddie Benjamin and Mr. Phillip Brown of St. Matthews; two brothers-in-law, Mr. Lester Means of Orangeburg and Mr. Melton Adams of Columbia; two sisters-in-law, Julia Means of Orangeburg and Hazel Means of Richmond, Virginia; one son-in-law, Mr. Michael Browning of California; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Sylvia W. Holley of Columbia; two godchildren, Yvette Wannamaker of Columbia and Mr. Virgel Jacobs of St. Matthews; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
