! A James "Jim" Miles Hinton, Jr., was the first of four children born to the late
James Miles Hinton, ST. and the late Ethel Roslyn Bell on December 24, 1924, in
Birmingham, Alabama. He departed this life at his residence on January 26, 1998. V
He began his education in the public schools of New York City and graduated from
Booker T. Washington High School, Columbia, South Carolina, in June 1941. His
college education began at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina, and
continued in Washington, DC, where he received a B. A. degree from Howard
University and a degree in Law from American University.
Mr. Hinton served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II from : 1942 until 1945; he also served during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at the >; Army Reserve Headquarters in Fort Myers, Virginia.
He met and later married Rosa Mae Everett on October 12, 1946. To this V union, three children were born.
In 1954, Mr. Hinton moved to Augusta where he worked as legal counsel
for The Pilgrim Health and Life Insurance Company. He served as Federal
Relations Officer and Title III Coordinator for Paine College from 1975 until his
death. In addition, he was In-house Counsel, Affirmative Action Officer, and campus coordinator for the National Youth Sports Program (NYSP).

He was actively involved in numerous civic and fraternal organizations
which include: Alpha Mu Boule of the Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, Senior Citizens Council, CSRA Planning Commission, Department of
Family and Childrens Services, and the Democratic Committee. In addition, he
was actively involved with the USO Council in the late 1960s, and was also a loyal
member of St. Marys Episcopal Church.
