What power has death, to awe and hush the voices of this earth? How mute we stand when death confronts us, we can only stand and gaze, and bow our heads in humble submission to the will o f Him who doeth all things well.
On the early morning of March 26, 1999, at 1:05 a.m., the captain of that old ship o f Zion beckoned our beloved mother and sister,
J e s t e r ani&t JSulltfr&n Iptmftersmt? aboard and
she sailed away to that land o f rest.
She was the daughter o f the late Dea. George and Channie Young Sullivan on May 29, 1919, in Edgefield. County, South Carolina.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized and united with the Spring Grove Baptist Church family, under the pastorage o f the late Rev. Jack Middleton, where she served faithfully until she moved to Brooklyn, New York. She then united with the Greater Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church o f which Rev. Randy L. Ware is Pastor and served until death.
In January 1939, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Louis Henderson. To this union four children were born, Louis, Jr., James, Ruthie and Minnie Ethel.
She strove untiringly to make them happy and warm. Even though she was devoted to her family, friends and community, her greatest allegiance was to her God. It was this abiding faith in God that sustained her to the end.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: two devoted sons, Mr. Louis Henderson, Jr., o f Brooklyn, NY and Mr. James (Ada) Henderson, Augusta, GA; two devoted daughters, Mrs. Ruthie Mae (Thomas) Lark, Brooklyn, NY and Mrs. Minnie Ethel (Roy) Smart, New York City; one brother, Mr. George (Anita) Sullivan, Jacksonville, PL; four sisters, Clara Gibbs and Katie Brown, both of Brooklyn, NY; Ethel Williams and Ola Tillman, of Augusta, GA; one stepsister, Ms. Rebecca Blocker; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a host of nephew, nieces, stepnieces, stepnephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
