N othing is more real or more alive than the precious memories o f those whom we have loved, but who ceased walking with us. Our life is richer because he was our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather andfriend.
ty ta a c f, closed his eyes in a peaceful rest on Monday, July 3, 2000. He was born on A pril 15, 1922, to the parentage o f the late Willie ``B ill" and Kate Hawes.
A t an early age he jo in ed M ount Zion Baptist Church, in Lincolnton, Georgia.
He retiredfrom the City o f Augusta Public Works.
On December 17, 1946, he was united in holy m atrimony to Frances M ae Cobb. To this union sixteen children were born, two o f which preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Frances ; children, Clevland Hawes, M yrtis (Barney) Bennett, Eula M ae Burns, JoAnn Benning, Everlyn (Dennis) Jessie, Peggy Hill, Leon Hawes, M ichael (Trecia) Hawes, M itchell (Yvonne) Hawes, Francine (Bruce) Wright, Beatrice (Johnny) iMmkin, Garry (Cassandra) Hawes, Wayne (Angela) Hawes and Rodney Hawes: three sisters, Lutoria Reid, M attie M cCladdie and Sadie (Clinton) M cCladdie; one stepsister, Eloise Few; three stepbrothers, Sherman Bennett, John Bennett and Leonard Bennett; his mother-in-law, Lillie M. Cobb; twenty three grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren; and a world o f nieces, nephews, other relatives andfriends.
