OBITUARY
In the beginning God created the Heaven and earth -- and on this beautiful earth he created man and woman. He loved them so well until he built a highway to heaven. There's trains that runs from earth to glory, and my wife, our mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother bought her ticket for there on August 30, 1976 at the Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington, Georgia.
Through this world, alas! Once and only once I pass; If a kindness I may do, To a suffering fellowman, Let me do while I can, No delay, for it is plain I Shall not pass this way again. Such was the testimony of Mrs. Lois Rebecca Norman Hawes. She tried to show kindness to others always. She was always ready to do a good deed for others. She was kind, passionate, warm, friendly, and possessed a charming personality. She loved everybody, attended church, and rendered service while she could. This best describes the character of Sister Lois Hawes. Mrs. Lois Rebecca Norman Hawes of Lincoln County, Georgia entered into rest Monday, August 30, 1976, at Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Jess Norman and Mrs. Helen Norman. She was converted and baptized during her youth, a faithful member of the New Tabernacle Baptist Church until her illness and death, a member of the Good Samiritian Lodge No. 13, Ebenezer Missionary, and the New Tabernacle Mission ary. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Joe Nathan Hawes in December 3, 1911, and to this union eleven children were born. Her survivors are a loving and devoted husband, Mr. Joe Nathan Hawes, six daughters, Mrs. Clara Belcher, Hampton, Va.; Mrs. Helen Sutton, Mrs. Ella Hamp, Mrs. Mary Jones, all of Augusta, Georgia; Mrs. Melba Nunally and Miss Arlesia Hawes, of Lincolnton, Georgia; four sons, Mr. Herman Hawes, Hampton, Va.; Mr. Peyton Hawes, Chicago, 111.; Mr. Joe Otis Hawes and Mr. Lonnie Hawes of Lincolnton, Georgia; one brother, Mr. Clifford Norman, Asheville, N. C.; five sons-in-laws, two daughters-in-law, twenty-seven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Only God knows the burden we bear. The loss we share. The cross so heavy on our shoulders. God grant that we may one day meet her face to face, in that blessed land of rest and peace. To us, she is a wife, mother, sister and friend; loving, kind, and sweet, not gone but just away.

Day by day we watched her as she slowly faded away. Though in our hearts we prayed that she may longer stay. God called her home; it was his will Her memory is the only thing that can call its own. A happy home we once enjoyed, sweet the memory still, But death has left a vacant chair that none in the world can fill. There was an angel band in heaven that was not quite complete, So God took my wife, our mother, and our sister dear to fill that vacant seat.
