Deacon James Willie "Buster" Hartley was bom August 12, 1945 in Aiken County, South Carolina, the son of the late Henry Hartley and Rosa Raiford Hartley. He departed this life Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at the Aiken Regional Medical Center.
He joined the church at an early age and received his early education in the Aiken County School System. He graduated from Martha Schofield High School in 1964.
He joined the Beaver Dam Baptist Church where he served as Superintendent of the Sunday School. After returning from New York where he worked as a city employee for many years, he resumed his duties with Beaver Dam Baptist Church and became a member of the Board of Deacons. He served faithfully until his health failed. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Army Reserves. He was a member of the Ashley Grove Masonic Lodge #593 and was a member of the Winthrop Hall Post #212 of the American Legion. He was the President of the Nice Guys Club.
Rejoicing in his memory are: his devoted sister and brother, Pauline Davis and Joseph Hartley, both of Aiken, South Carolina; his uncle and aunt, Branson Hartley and Sadie Corley, both of Hempstead, New York; two devoted nieces, Sabrina Davis and April McKinney; one great-niece, Shasana McKinney; and a host of cousins, other relatives and loving friends.
