BENJAMIN ERIC HANKERSON
Saturday, January 5, 1985 2:00 P.M. THANKFUL BAPTIST CHURCH

** OBITUARY **
The end ofJanuary is considered "bill time". Well, my mother andfather had their normal after-Christmas bills plus a a permanent bill identified as Benjamin Eric Hankerson, who is commonly known as Eric. Eric was introduced to this world on January 30, 1953, the only son, and the second child of Benjamin and Mildred Hankerson. Excerpt from Erics Autobiography, written at Josey High School.
Eric went to nursery school at Macedonia Baptist Church, and attended Immaculate Conception School, Silas Floyd, and Hornsby Elementary Schools. He graduated from T.W. Josey High School in 1971. At Josey, he was active in football, baseball, and basketball. After high school, he attended Norfolk State College where he made the football team in his freshman year. During the summers, his activities included baseball and swimming. He was awarded the senior lifeguard training certificate in swimming.
Eric attended Thankful Baptist Church where he was active in the Sunday School and served on the Usher Board. He was baptized on the first Sunday in May, 1963 by Rev. N.T. Young, Sr. He grew in statue and in favor with God and man.
Eric had a contagious personality which endeared him to all with whom he came in contact. During his illness, he was of good spirit, patience, and often more cheerful than those persons visiting him. He was loving, kind, and a true friend to those with whom he came in contact.
Cherishing fond memories are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Hankerson; a sister, Colis Hankerson Ivey; two nephews, Johnathan William and Marc Hankerson Ivey; a brother-in-law, John Ivey; aunts and uncles, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Lowe, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Baker, Ms. Mary F. Brathwaite, Mr. and Mrs. George Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Orin Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Terrell Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hankerson, and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hankerson who reside in New York City. Intimate and unforgettable friends include Beverly Beasley, Connie McCord, Thomas Hankerson, Charles Cain, Thomas Mills, Arthur Stone, and numerous others who shared their devotion and loyalty.

Have you ever walked along a path

<

And looked ahead of you

To where the road turned suddenly

And seemed lost awhile from view?

We think of Eric living still

Where the road goes on without end

It is only we who do not see

The path beyond the bend.

OUR THANKS
We would like to express our sincerest appreciation for the prayers, visits, love, and concern for Eric during his illness-these brought him comfort and cheer. For the kind words and gestures of sympathy during our bereavement, we are grateful. Your many kindnesses will always be remembered with deepest gratitude.
