OBITUARY
Mrs. Fannie Tanksley Hammonds daughter of the late Mrs. Dellie Smith Gilchrist, and Mr. Joseph Tanksley, was born in Edgefield Coun ty, South Carolina, December 22, 1902, departed this life September 25, 1975 at the University Hospital, Augusta, Georgia.
At an early age she was converted and joined the Spring Grove Baptist Church where she served faithfully until death.
She was married to the late Mr. Johnnie Jones who preceded her in death. Later she married Mr. Cal Hammonds, who preceded her in death.
Although Mrs. Hammonds was devoted to her family and to the community, she never missed an opportunity to attend church. Her first allegiance was to God. It was this deep faith which sustained her to the end.
She leaves to mourn her passing five sisters: Mrs. Sallie Marshall of Washington, D. C., Mrs. Janie Howard of Brooklyn, New York, Mrs. Louise Samuel of North Augusta, South Carolina, and Mrs. Margrett Curry of Brooklyn, New York, and Mrs. Rosa McKie of Trenton, South Carolina; three brothers, Mr. Conelious Gilchrist of North Augusta, South Carolina, Mr. Robert Gilchrist of Washington, D. C., and Mr. Henry Gilchrist of Savannah, Georgia; a Godchild, Eugene Gardner, North Augusta, South Carolina; three sisters-in-law, 4 brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends.
