William C. Golden was bom May 24, 1937 in Augusta, Georgia, the youngest child bom to the late Maria L. Golden. William entered into rest at his residence on April 10, 2010.
William received his elementary education from Weed School. His high school education was received at Lucy Craft Laney High School, graduating in 1956. He matriculated at Savannah State College and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts in 1961. During his time at Savannah State, he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc, Gamma Chi chapter. William later received his Masters of Education degree from South Carolina State College in 1982. He taught Industrial Arts at Lucy C. Laney High School from 1963 to 1985 and then onto George P. Butler High School in 1985. He was known for his stern demeanor and EVERYONE knew "Mr. Golden". William retired in 1998 from George P. Butler High School after providing 37 years of dedicated service to public education.
William's civic involvement included the Augusta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc, Boy Scouts of America, and serving as a Court Judicial Advocate for Richmond County. He became a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. on June 1,1981.
On December 23, 1962, William married Annie Joyce Dodd of Marietta, Georgia. To this union, three children were born: William Christopher, Stacey Yolonda, and Gregory Bernard. He was the very proud grandfather of one grandson, Andrew Christopher.
William accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at Elm Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia by Reverend R.L. Boyd. During his active time as a member, he served on the Trustee Board, The R.L. Boyd Chorus, and enjoyed assisting with the arts department during Vacation Bible School, making leather crafts with the children.
William was preceded in death by two sisters; Gladys A. Briscoe and Thomasina Johnson and one brother, Rudolph V. Golden.
William's memories will be cherished by his loving and dedicated wife of 47 years, Anne D. Golden; two sons, Dr. W. Christopher (Dr. Sherita) Golden of Reisterstown, Maryland and Gregory Bernard Golden of Lithonia, Georgia; one daughter, Stacey Yolonda Golden of Atlanta, Georgia; one grandson, Andrew Christopher Golden of Reisterstown, Maryland; one sister-in-law, Bethenia Golden, Salisbury, Maryland; three nephews, Tyrone (LaTonya) Smith of Antioch, California, Alton (Tiny) Smith of Oakland, California and Herman Golden; three nieces, Yvonne Metcalf of Tuskegee, Alabama, Gladys Smith and Mina Smith of San Francisco, California; one great-aunt, M. Alice Romeo of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; mother-in-law, Mary E. Dodd of Marietta, Georgia; three godchildren, Xavier Wood of Nashville, Tennessee, Val Bell Byrd of College Park, Georgia and Sheri Bell Pinnock of Decatur, Georgia; godfather, Mr. Arthur L. Brentson of Savannah, Georgia; a host of additional sister-in-laws and brotherin-laws, and a very dear friend, Ulysses Stanley of Aurora, Colorado. He also leaves an extended family of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and close friends.
