H ow can we express our gratitude to the hundreds of individuals who, during what could have been a bleak and dismal period in life, came to be with us. Your visits, many calls, cards, food(s), beverages, prayers, hugs, kisses, verbal expressions of sympathy, distant travel(s) and your "just being" there have collectively sustained us through the inevitable. The entire family joins with us when we say, "Thank You." To God be the glory for the things He has done!

Tell me not in mournful numbers, life is but an empty dream, and the soul is dead th a t slumbers and things are not w hat they seem! Life is real - life is earnest - and the grave is not its g o a l.. .For such works, my friends, were never spoken o f the soul!
On a glorious autumn day in Waynesboro, Georgia on October 10, 1918, a beautiful blessing was bestowed on Mrs. Jessie Palmer and Mr. McKinley Walker when their baby daughter Dorothy Lee Walker was born. After an extended illness on July 15, 2006, she departed this life at 2:30 p.m. at University Hospital.
At an early age she joined Palmer Grove Baptist Church in Burke County. While living in Burke County she met and married the late Eli Gilbert. To this union one daughter, Evelyn Gilbert Etheridge, was born. The family moved to Augusta, Georgia and joined Elim Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. R. L. Boyd.
Mrs. Gilbert was actively involved at Elim Baptist Church where she initiated the development of the R. L. Boyd choir. She also served for many years as the mission society president.
She retired from Bethlehem Community Center after over twenty years of service and later joined Blair Nursing House for eight years.
Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, and three siblings.
She leaves to mourn her loving memory, two adopted sons: John (Melaine) Freeman and Cornelius Bryant, Augusta, Georgia; one brother, William (Florence) Palmer, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; an aunt, Idella Walker, Augusta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jonet, John Jr., Jolaine and Jovan, all of Augusta, Georgia; two devoted nieces, Willie Ruth Smith, Freeport, New York and Martha Jackson, Adanta, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
