ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Perhaps you sang a touching song, Or came and just sat quietly in a chair; Perhaps you sent lovely flowers, If so, we saw them there. Perhaps you sent or spoke comforting words, Or helped us to pray; Perhaps you were not there at all, Just thought of us that day. Whatever you did to console our hearts, We thank you sincerely--whatever the part.
The Family

OBITUARY
The Rev. John E. Garrett, son of the late Eli and Ciarinda Morgan Garrett, was born in Edgefield County, S.C., January 12, 1884, and departed this life, July 6, 1981, at Richland Memorial Hospital, Columbia, S.C.
He was joined in holy matrimony to Mattie Boston and of this union fifteen children were born, seven of whom preceded him in death.
In 1909 he was converted and joined Carey Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a faithful member and deacon. During this period of devoted service he answered the call to the ministry. In 1936 he was ordained and served as pastor of Carey Hill Baptist Church for fortytwo years. Also he pastored Mt. Hebron Baptist Church and Hopewell Baptist Church. He was a successful farmer and a member of Piney Grove Benevolent Lodge for many years.
Though a dedicated husband, father, friend and neighbor, his greatest devotion was to his church and God. His abounding faith sus tained him to the end.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife, Mattie B. Garrett; two daughters, Mrs. Willie Mae Feemste-r of Richmond, Ind., and Mrs. Josephine Gould of Washington, D.C.; six sons, Daniel W. Garrett of Atlantic City, N.J., Charlie Garrett of Richmond, Ind., Kent Alonzo Garrett of Springfield Gardens, N.Y., Fred D. Garrett of Greenville, S.C., Elisha Garrett of Hempstead, N.Y., and T. J. Garrett of St. Albans, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Hettie Kenner of Jamaica, N.Y., and Mrs. Henrietta McCain of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother, Robert Garrett of Edgefield, S.C.: seven daughters-in-law, Mrs. Evetta Garrett, Mrs. Wilma Garrett, Mrs. Lucille Garrett, Mrs. Willie Mae Garrett, Mrs. Mamie W. Garrett, Mary Ellen Garrett and Bessie Garrett; one son-in-law, Robert Gould; two sisters-in-law, Bettie Garrett and Mary Lou Garrett; one brother-in-law, Wade Kenner; twenty-four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
A LOVING MEMORY
His life is a beautiful memory; His absence, our sorrow and grief; He sleeps in God's beautiful garden, In the sunshine o f perfect peace.
Sometimes it's hard to understand, Why some things have to be; But in His wisdom He has planned, Beyond our power to see.
