Robert J. (Rufus) Garnett, son of the late Otis and Linne Beard Garnett departed this life on January 28, 1994 at his home in Lincolnton, GA. Those who preceded him in death were ten sisters and brothers.
Rufus, as he was affectinonately called, was born on April 1, 1916 in Columbia County, GA. He realized early in life that his spiritual needs must be met. He thus joined the First Mount Carmel Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Rev. G. W. Harrison.
He was a faithful and dedicated member of the Deacons Ministry until his health prevented him from serving physically. Although he was not physically able to attend, his mind was constantly on the church and his church family.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Jessie Garnett of Lake Crossing Nursing Home, Appling, GA; two sons, James Lee Garnett, Dealing, GA and Robert J. Garnett, Jr., Lincolnton, GA; two sister-in-laws, Lillian Garnett and Hattie Garnett; two neices, Louise Durrette and Geneva Conley; five nephews, Ellis Ramsey, Willie Joe Garnett, Eugene Garnett, Joe Louis Garnett and Frank Garnett and a host of other relatives and friends.
We wish to express our sincere appreciation for the cards, telegrams, florals, condolences, and other expressions during the illness and loss of our loved one. They have helped immeasurably in lightening our burden of sadness. We want each of you to know we shall remain forever grateful for your kindness and thoughtfulness.

POEM
God saw the road was getting rough; The hills were hard to climb,
He gently closed those loving eyes; And whispered, "Peace be thine" The weary hours, the days of pain; The sleepness nights are passed, The ever-patient, worn-out frame;
Has found sweet rest at last
