** OBITUARY **
Mrs. Lula B. Thotnpkins Gardenhire, daughter of the late Whitfield Thompkins and Mamie Thompkins, was born in Edgefield County, South Carolina, on November 18, 1897. She departed this life on February 16, 1990, at the Edgefield County Hospital, Edgefield, South Carolina.
At an early age, she joined the Bethany Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. W. J. Jennings, where she served faithfully until death.
She was married to the late Thomas Gardenhire, Sr. To this union twelve children were born. Two preceeded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, Mamie L. Thurmond, of Clarks Hill, South Carolina; Mrs. Verdell Sullivan, North Augusta, South Carolina and Mrs. Viola Seymore, of Augusta, Georgia; seven sons, Otis and James Gardenhire, of of Augusta, Georgia; Frank Gardenhire of Hayward, California; Thomas Gardenhire, Jr., Wyatt and Willie Gardenhire of Clarks Hill, South Carolina and Lonnie Gardenhire of Brooklyn, New York; 41 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Bertha Houston of Augusta, Georgia, Novella Williams of Clarks Hill, South Carolina, Etta Field Seymore of Chicago, Illinois and Sarah Elam of Augusta, Georgia; one brother, Whitfield Thompkins, Jr. of Augusta, Georgia; 2 sisters-in-law, 7 daughters-in-law, 3 sons-inlaw, nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends.
