Obituary
Kay Francis Heard, the daughter of the late Rev. Floyd and
Katie Mae (Gray) Heard, was bom September 26, 1934, in Augusta, Georgia.
Kay Francis accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Thankful Baptist Church. Growing up in Thankful, Kay Francis was active in Sunday School, the Junior Mission and the Youth Choir. Kay Francis was known for her strong singing voice and at the age o f 14 years old, she was placed in the Senior Choir by the late Rev. N. T. Young.
Kay Francis was a 1954 graduate o f Immaculate Conception Academy. After high school, Kay Francis attended and earned a nursing degree from Benedict College in Columbia, SC. Living in Boston, Massachusetts, Kay Francis worked at Mass General Hospital. She was united in marriage to the late Mr. Frederick Bennett. To this union three children were bom: Kenneth J. Bennett, Deborah Y. Bennett and Floyd T. Bennett.
Kay Francis later returned to the Augusta area and was employed as a Mental Health Nurse at University Hospital. She also worked at several nursing homes before retiring in 1990.
After many years o f illness, Kay Francis peacefully departed her life on October 28, 2010 at Golden Living Nursing Facility surrounded by her loving family.
She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted daughter, Deborah and sonin-law, Dwight Johnson; two sons, Kenneth (Marguerita) and Floyd Bennett of Augusta, GA; five grandchildren, Kenya (Franklin) of North Augusta, SC, Alexandria and Faith Bennett o f Augusta, GA, Marcel Davis of Augusta, GA and Andrea Bennett of Savannah, GA; two devoted sisters, Marie H. (Anthony) Beard of Augusta, GA and Floydtina H. Murray of Hephzibah, GA; one sister-in-law, Janice R. Heard of Augusta, GA; one uncle Rev. Dr. Edmond Henley of Cambridge, MA; four god children, Eddiestine DeBose and Lana Hunt of Augusta, GA, Michelle Lynn Williams o f Smyrna, GA, Pamela Heard of Stateboro, GA; three dear friends, Lela Hunt, Geneva Bell, Malvern Miller o f Augusta, GA; adopted family MacArthur (Toneitha) Williams and Family o f Augusta, GA and a host of sorrowing nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Kay Francis was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Harry Lee Franklin, brothers, Rev. Chester A and Harrison P. (HP) Heard.
Kay Francis loved her children, her family, friends and her church.
