At an early age he was converted and baptized at the Second Ebenezer Baptist Church. He served as a member of the Deacon Board, President of the Senior Choir, Treasurer of the Sunday School and Church, a member of Club No. 1, and President of the Union Sons & Daughters Society. He was a willing and dedicated worker and served faithfully until his health failed.

He was married to Mary Sanford on November 16, 1936. He was a retired foreman of the Castleberry Food Company, where he had worked diligently for 30 years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Mary Magdalene Evans; two daughters, Mrs. Louise Burnett and Mrs. Mary A. Walker; two adopted sons, Deacon Henry Evans, Jr., Augusta, Ga., and James Bing, Mt. Pleasant, Maryland; two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Belle Williams, Washington, D.C. and Mrs. Alice Johnson, New port, N.C.; two brothers, Dea. Charlie Evans, Philadelphia, PA. and Mr. Lefollette Evans, Augusta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Mrs. Marjorie Howe, Ms. Deborah Sanford, Mr. Kenneth Sanford, Ms. Alicia Walker, Ms. Tomeka Walker, Ms. Eugenia Bush, Ms. Janice Evans, Mr. Gary Evans, Ms. Matlyn Evans and Ms. Myra Evans; two sons-in-law, Mr. Willie Bumett and Mr. Willie Walker; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ella Evans; 10 sisters-in-law; 4 brothersin-law; 4 great grandchildren; and a. host of nieces, nephews, cou sins, other relatives and friends.

He has not served who gathers gold, Nor has he served whose life is told In selfish battles he has won Or deed of skill that he has done, But he has served who now and then Has helped along his fellow men.
