"Tribute to Big Sis"
For those of us who are blessed with a "big sister" some immediate thoughts might be protector, coach, critic, spiritual advisor, counselor, boss, and guardian. Those are only a few words to describe my "Big Sister" and friend, Pat.
Pat was the oldest of three children born to Doris Elam and the late Roy Elam on April 15, 1949 in Paterson, N.J. She was a 1967 Graduate of Patersons infamous East Side High. Though my parents relocated to Augusta, Ga. in 1972, Pat remained in Paterson for two years where she served as secretary to the Mayor. In 1974 Pat relocated to Augusta and shortly there after worked in the accounting department of the Former Pilgrim Health & Life Ins. Co. Her entrepreneur spirit led her to leave Pilgrim after 12 years and create a small business of her own which she named Sincerely Yours, specializing in church programs and bookkeeping.
She eventually moved the business into her home and continued her God given talent of "word" and "creativity". I always complained "Pat you dont charge enough," her reply was always "I know baby, but as long as I can help somebody and make a spiritual impact that is rewarding enough." For those of you who had the honor of knowing my sister, you know,
that was Pat. Her other accomplishments included member of the Augusta
Black Festival Choir, Georgia Mass Choir, Black Business Bureau, Augusta Mini Theatre, and graduate of Good Shepard Bible College. As a member of Harmony Baptist Church, she served on the following auxiliaries; Pastors Support Ministry, Trustee Board, Mission Ministry and Church Clerk/Secretary. She also served as financial secretary for Tabernacle Baptist
Church. Pat departed this life on Wednesday, September 24, 2003
at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. She leaves behind her mother, Doris Elam; two daughters, Shaunna and Nicole; two grandsons, Dee and Markees; two nephews, Michael and Khori; and one great nephew, Mike Mike. We also would like to give special thanks to cousin Thelma, Niecy, cousin Mae
Frances and Irthgar. Gone are days of you, me and Sharon sitting around and
making jokes about momma and daddy. I will always have the memory of you as my "Big Sister, my protector, and my friend."
With love, Baby Sis (Lynette)
