The true value of a childs life may be measured by the impact made by a parent. Many thoughts conic to my mind when I think of my daddy. If I were asked to summarize his life, I would remember the tilings we discussed during the years
we shared.

On July 26, 1916, in Lincoln County, Georgia a handsome son was born

to the late Tom Quick Elam and the late Eliza Bussey Elam. This child

was the youngest of sixteen children and proudly named Roy Tom

Elam.

.

He was a strong and determined young man and times being what they were in the mid 1940s, he migrated north to Paterson, New Jersey.

Not long afterwards he met my mom, his surviving wife, Dons Dunn Elam. In 1949, my sister, Pat was bom. Pat bore Nickie, his oldest grandchild and Nickie bore Toby, his first great grandchild. Pat also bore Shaunna. Shaunna bore Dee, his second great grandchild.

In 1953, my daddy and Elbert Bates, a long time friend, formed Bates & Elam Construction Company. That same year, my sister, Sharon was born. Sharon bore Pip, his oldest grandson.
In 1957, my father came into fellowship with Christ Temple Baptist Church, in Paterson, New Jersey.
In 1959, his baby girl was born and my name is Lyndell. I bore Khori, his youngest grandchild.
I remember our Saturday rides to Passaic, New Jersey, to visit his family. His surviving sisters Aunt Evelyn and Aunt Annie, still live in Passaic.

In 1972, my father moved us to Augusta, Georgia where he remained until his death on Saturday, February 14, 1998. My daddy passed in the Hospice unit of St. Joseph Hospital.
Near the end of my dads life, their were loved ones that were present and shared the same pain. For those, I must give special thanks, my Aunt Laura, his third surviving sister, who was there at the end. These two shared the ultimate of sibling love. My Cousin Thelma, his niece, who I know he loved as a daughter. Thanks Thelma. My Uncle J.D., my mothers brother, for the emotional support he gave to my mom and dad. To Niecy who stayed by his side many a day, words cannot express our appreciation. To Irthgar, who provided emotional support to our family. I would also like to thank two of his nieces, Mae Frances and Rosa Lee who always kept in touch.

Also left to cherish his memory are: two sons; Roy, Jr. and Robertnieces, and great nieces; nephews and great nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
