`TheO bituary
Mrs. Mattie Dorsey Durham entered into her heavenly sleep on November 30, 2009 at 1:31 p.m. at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta, GA. She was bom January 17, 1934 to the late John and Lula Beatrice Dorsey.
At an early age she was baptized at Second Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until her health began to fail. She was a member of the Senior Choir, Women Mission and the combined choir, where she loved to sing.
Everyone who knew our Mom, knew she loved the Lord, her children, family, cooking, and fishing.
She was a very stylish lady and it showed by the way she neatly wore her hair and the lavish style of clothing that she wore. You could say she looked liked a very sophisticated lady.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Edward Durham for 46 years. To this union they had four daughters and one son. She was preceded in death by her son, Johnny Durham and a sister, Mamie Murray.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her devoted children, Roberta (Rufus) England, Carolyn (George) Riley, Katherine Sapp and Beatrice (Reynolds) Tankersley, Jr.; a special niece, Essie (Don) Johnson; a special nephew, Bobby Lee Murray; 7 grandchildren, Shunte England, Monique England, Zack England, Mattie L. (Marcus) Leverett, Eugene "Teddy" Sapp, Brittany Tankersley, Sonya Bums; 3 stepsons, Robert (Mary) Benning, James Benning and Edward Patterson; 5 great grandchildren, Devante' England, Jordan Kinnitt, Marcus Leverett, Makayla Leverett, and Robbie Bums, III; a special aunt, Carrie L. Wilkes; brothers-inlaw and sisters-in-law, Dave (Viola) Durham, Claude (Bea) Durham, Effie Green, Vera Green, and Minnie Tutt; a devoted friend, Parthenia Tolbert; an adopted sister, Carrie McCladdie; 3 devoted friends, Ella Mae Brinson, Reba Dent and Ludell Garnett; a host of other nieces, other nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free I'm following the path God laid for me. I took His hand when I heard him call;
I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way; I found that place at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared a laugh, a kiss; Ah yes, these things, I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much; Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch. Perhaps my time seems all to brief; Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.
